News Release - Feb. 5, 1996. RE: Bill C-226 to repeal Section 745 of the Criminal Code dies in parliament despite overwhelming support from the House and the Canadian public.

When parliament was prorogued on February 2, 1996, Liberal M.P. John Nunziata's Private Member's, Bill C 226, calling for the repeal of section 745, died on the table of the Justice Committee.

This Bill received overwhelming support at second reading on December 13, 1994. We demand that the Federal government draft legislation in response to the majority vote of the House of Commons that Section 745 of the Criminal Code must be repealed and that the legislation be put on the Order Paper in a timely fashion.
