News Release - Sept. 13, 1995. RE: the police investigation in the Bernardo case

September, 13, 1995, Burlington, Ontario

- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -

The public have expressed great concern over specific issues arising out of the police role in the investigation of both the murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, as well as the Scarborough rapes.

In view of the Yeo Inquest and the Yeo Inquest Report Card, CAVEAT has been inundated with requests for comment. Detailed public commentary would be premature in light of ongoing litigation. We have, however, communicated some of our concerns to the Solicitor-General, and we are hopeful that the province and the forces involved will commit to a full public accounting in the interests of crime prevention.

After current litigation has been resolved, we will publicly revisit our concerns and ensure that appropriate measures are taken. Public confidence in the system is critical if we are to have law and order in this province.

CAVEAT will not be available for interviews on this issue until current litigation has been resolved.
